Pet insurance in France, in plain English

If you live in France with a dog or a cat, this page gives you the four numbers that actually decide what a policy is worth: what it costs, what it reimburses once the deductible is taken out, when cover really starts, and up to what age you can subscribe at all.

Everything here is read from the insurers' own French pages and contract documents on a stated date, and archived. We sell nothing, we are not brokers, and we ask for no personal details.

What we found, in four sentences

• Only four insurers out of eleven publish a monthly price per species. The rest send you to a quote form. Two of them advertise a daily price, which makes the figure look thirty times smaller.
• A policy advertised at 80 % often reimburses 48 %. The deductible comes off the invoice before the percentage applies, not off the refund afterwards.
• The French market has four different ways of charging a deductible: per year, per visit, both at once, or as a percentage of the bill. Only eight insurers out of thirteen publish theirs before you sign.
• A ferret can only be insured until it is two years old, although it lives six to ten. No comparison site publishes these age limits.

Where these figures come from

Each price is read from the insurer's own official page, on a stated date. We store the exact sentence the figure was read from, together with the SHA-256 fingerprint of the archived page, so that any figure stays verifiable after the insurer changes its website. The full survey is downloadable as CSV and as JSON under a CC BY 4.0 licence.

We never fill in a quote form. Several insurers forbid it in their robots.txt, and a quote is not a published price.
